Ruth Pawson School History
In 1976, Ruth Pawson School was named after the school teacher, primary consultant and artist Ruth May Pawson to honor her many accomplishments in the fields of art and teaching.
Students
There are 251 students enrolled at Ruth Pawson School in Kindergarten through Grade 8. The pupil-teacher ratio is 26.75. We are home to a Structured Learning Classroom which draws its student population (currently 8 students) from the surrounding area. As of August 2010, the school is also home to an Ehrlo Early Learning Centre currently accommodating 50 children ages 18 months to 12 years.
Staff
14.5 teachers are responsible for the teaching and learning in the Kindergarten – Grade 8 classrooms. This includes classroom teachers and specialists in Structured Learning, Core French, Arts Education, Physical Education, Learning Resource Teacher and Teacher-Librarian. Our staffing component also includes 5 Educational Assistants, 1 Resource Centre Assistant, Office Management, Maintenance and Administration. We also receive services from a Student Achievement Consultant, a Speech and Language Pathologist, a School Counselor, a Psychologist and a School Resource Officer.
Community
Ruth Pawson School is nestled in the heart of the Uplands Community in north Regina. We are adjacent to the Uplands Community Center which is operated by the community association. Mount Pleasant Park is a major sports facility in the area. The community was developed in the 1970s. Kensington Greens subdivision is a new development currently under construction (Phase 1B) to the north and accessible off Broad Street.
School Governance Structure
The principal at Ruth Pawson is Ms. Jeannette Revet. The student body is represented by the elected Student Representative Council (SRC). The community is represented by the School Community Council (SCC) which was elected on September 9, 2014 and consists of 9 elected members and two appointed members, which include the principal and a classroom teacher. The chair of the 2014-2015 SCC is Kelsey Wolf. The SCC meets on the second Tuesday of the month.
